EL: I Wasn’t Ready to Leave

The Exit Logs Series

They make it sound heroic.

Like one day you just rip out the plug and never look back.

But I didn’t leave like that.

I left slowly.

I left confused.

I left grieving something I couldn’t even name.

No one tells you that the Matrix is comforting.

Predictable.

Familiar in a way that starts to feel like safety.

Even when it’s draining you.

Even when it’s killing parts of you quietly.

It offers structure.

Approval.

Validation in the currency of obedience.

Leaving that behind feels like jumping

without knowing if there’s ground.

I wanted to be brave.

To walk away with clarity and power.

But I wasn’t ready.

I hesitated.

Clung to half-versions of freedom.

Tried to “change the system from the inside.”

Tried to keep the money, the validation, the title—

just without the soul-death.

But the Matrix doesn’t offer half-choices.

You’re in,

or you’re out.

And when I finally stepped out,

I didn’t feel free.

I felt raw.

Exposed.

Unplugged from something

that had been holding me in place—

even if it was a lie.

This post is for the ones

who didn’t leave with fireworks.

Who doubted.

Who looked back.

Who left anyway.

You don’t have to be ready.

You just have to be honest.

That’s where the exit begins.
